Apple and Cheese Crumble

Serves: 6
Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 30 mins

3 medium cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
175g British Medium Mature Cheddar Cheese, finely grated
teaspoon powdered cinnamon
50g soft light brown sugar
50g raisins or sultanas
175g plain flour
75g unsalted butter, cubed
50g caster sugar

Apple and Cheese Crumble

 

Method

Preheat the oven to 200 C, gas mark 6.

Have ready a large shallow oven-proof dish.

Layer the apples, 100g of the cheese, cinnamon, soft brown sugar and raisins in the dish.

Put the flour, butter, caster sugar and remaining cheese into a food processor and process together for a few seconds until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Alternatively rub the butter into the flour by hand and stir in the sugar and cheese to achieve a crumble mixture.

Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the apples, pressing down lightly, Bake for about 30 minutes until the top is a rich golden brown.

Serve hot or cold with fresh cream or custard.
