Situated in Sale this is a fine French owned restaurant with a lively young atmosphere.
Friends had tried the restaurant a couple of weeks earlier and decided that it would be a good place for the 4 of us to go for a pre-Christmas meal.
On the night of the 23rd December we arrived at 8:45 , the restaurant wasn't busy, yet the upbeat 60s / 70s / 80s & 90s background music and the Christmas decorations made for a good atmosphere. We didn't leave until 12:15 so we spent 3 and a half hours there and the time flew by so we must have enjoyed the experience, if it wasn't for work in the morning we would have all been happy to stay longer.
For starters we had Button Mushrooms (Sautéed in garlic butter with white wine and cream and shavings of smoked ham), Tuna & Bean Salad (Served with rocket leaves and a Quail egg with a light herb dressing), Chicken Liver and Pork pate (Scented with brandy and juniper with red current jelly), a garlic bread and a garlic bread with cheese .......all of which was very nice....especially the mushrooms and the pate.
For the main meal we had the Escalope of Turkey (stuffed with roule cheese, baked and served on a garlic and chive cream), Breast of Barbary Duck (with a passion fruit sauce lightly scented with grand Marnier) and 2 portions of 'Surf & Turf' (Prime Scotch beef fillet topped with fresh king prawns and surrounded by a rich pinot noir sauce), these came with a selection of fresh vegetables and new potatoes......Everyone was very happy with their main meal, the steak and duck being particularly mouth watering.
3 of us later decided to have a pudding, one having a chocolate desert and 2 having a Lemon Meringue .... it has to be said that they all look really nice, but each were quite bland to taste.
The food bill came to £82.20 .... not bad at all for a good quality meal that we all enjoyed.
The whole experience was complemented by a couple of bottles of wine, several bottles of beer, a couple of brandies and sadly for me a couple of diet Cokes (as I was driving) ... the drinks bill coming to £51.55
An Optional 10% Service Charge was added giving a total bill for the evening of £144.12 (which we thought given the food, drink atmosphere and all round good service wasn't bad at all.
Regular live music is played in the restaurant.
Live Jazz on the first Wednesday of every month.
Booking: I'd recommend booking for a Friday or Saturday night, during may be OK
Atmosphere : Lively music , but not too loud as to prevent conversation.
Quality: Very good
Staff: Polite and friendly
Price: £20 per head + drinks.
Overall: Excellent ...great atmosphere and great food , we all thought it was well worth visiting again.
