|Mister M's is a relative newcomer to the Albert
Dock, and is a Cafe during the Day, Restaurant in the evening. Being fascinated by
seafood, I persuaded my wife and daughter, neither of whom are seafood afficionados, to
come along. My son needed no persuasion - as a student, anything for a free meal!!!
arrived "on spec" to find that we were lucky to get a table for 4. The place was
very busy, and had a very pleasant ambience. The staff were very friendly and attentive,
and, where their knowledge was not sufficient, were eager to go and get the answer from
the horse's mouth!
I started with a seafood salad: Salmon, Haddock, Tuna and Crab, flaked on a bed of
salad. All very fresh, tasty, and with good texture. My son had a similar starter, with
the various fish in batter - he enjoyed this as much as I did. We exchanged samples and
agreed both were equally good. More to the point - my non sea-food-loving daughter decided
to try some of mine, and proceeded to snaffle rather more than I was prepared to give
For the main course, I went for Cajun Redfish. This was rather better than other
"Cajun" prepared dishes I've had in the past, with the generous Coriander
dressing adding someting extra - I loved it.
The house Red wine was a very pleasant surprise - I had expected something weak and
tart, but got a rich, warm wine which just hit the spot for all present.
Dessert was a Rich Hazelnut Charlotte with Fruit Coulis. Although I don't often get as
far as a dessert, this was most agreeable.
The only downside was the coffee - my daughter thought her capuccino was a little
"flat", and my expresso a bit thin - I like my coffee to fight back, and a
Ristretto is normally too weak for me!!.
Verdict - The experience was altogether pleasant, and I'll go back as soon
Margaret and I went to Liverpool last night (Sat 11 Sep 99) with a couple of friends,
and again tried "on spec" to get a table at Mr M's. This time we were unlucky so
we ended up in the Casa Bella (more
of which later...). This time we hadn't been able to try to book as we only found out we
could meet our friends at the last minute - next time we'll plan better.
