Chung KuEast Lanc's Road 01744 609868 23 Oct 1999 My Birthday (don't ask!). Marg and I and our dining companions Karl and Rayanne booked a table at Chung Ku. I'd been there some eighteen months ago, and remembered that it was quite good. This place is very busy, and surprised me by having a takeaway service - it didn't look like a "takeaway" sort of establishment. The place was as busy as the last time I'd been in, and as busy as it always seems whenever I drive past it. Salt 'n Chilli Chicken Wings, Samosas, King Prawns and Battered Fish Strips were the four starters. The Fish Strips were excellent, and would have been enough for a main course. House Red followed a couple of pints of lager - neither of the girls drink much, and Rayanne was driving. The waiters and waitresses were attentive and pleasant, and the Manageress approached each table for a quick check to see we were all happy. Main courses were: Chicken with garlic and chilli in a wine sauce; Pork; King Prawn; Scallop Sizzler. All were delicious, though my Scallop Sizzler should have been served with a Health and Safety warning - it was so hot that the sauce was spitting right across the table! By the time it cooled down, I had sampled all the other's dishes and was delighted. Chung Ku is obviously popular, and I think it's popularity is well deserved. We will be returning. In fact, Karl and Rayanne returned within a couple of days - they again reported that they had had a very agreeable evening. Our meal, including drinks and service charge, came to £104.
