We had decided to make the journey into Rusholme as we were all in the mood for an Indian meal. This time we decided to try a different restaurant. We have a number of favourites in this area, but like to experiment and see if we can add something new to our repertoire.

As we wondered around we came across Hanaan, which has been around for some time and we have often contemplated trying it out. It has a fairly modern corner frontage and looks extremely respectable from the outside. We were further seduced by the gentleman on the door enticing customers in with a discount card for 15% off the bill and free poppadums. That clinched it and we went in.

We sat down and studied the menu, whilst poppadums and chutneys were provided. I ordered a pint of lager, the rest of the family had soft drinks and we all perused the menu. Typical offerings and typically priced for Rusholme, but still quite extensive. I ordered sheek kebab to start, followed by karahi lamb, pillau rice and a nan bread. The kids had sheek kebab and shami kebabs each followed by chicken korma and chicken tikka massala. My wife ordered onion bhajis followed by just rice as she would dip into the main courses that were too much for the kids.

The restaurant was perhaps a little different than might have been presumed from outside. The tablecloths were paper, rather than linen which I had expected from the external appearance. The toilets were clean and fresh which is always a good sign. (I get so fed up with restaurants who ignore toilet hygiene and freshness, or who clutter up the entrance as some sort of makeshift storeoom). The central focus is the large round bar in the middle of the restaurant, which dominates the restaurant space. Overall the interior decor and ambience did not live upto external appearances, but this is not a major issue.

Starters on the menu were excellent value, and well appreciated. The main courses were also respectable and good, but not outstanding. The Service was good and the food arrived fresh and hot which is important.

Overall an enjoyable meal in unpretentious surroundings. The bill came to 24.30 for two adults and two children, with starters, sharing three main courses and a round of drinks. We reckon that was good value and on that basis certainly recommend Hanaan for good food and value for money.

Verdict - we came away very satisfied. Recommended.
