Lunchtime, Thursday 22nd July 1999, Didsbury is reckoned to be one of the up-and-coming places in Manchester, and one of my colleagues who lives there suggested that we try wok.wok for lunch. Didsbury seems pretty well endowed with eateries and hostelries which all appear to have that certain je-ne-sais-quois which youth and money bestow. Wok.Wok is one of them. Wok Wok at lunchtime has a 4.95 single-visit, 6.95 all-you-can-eat self-serve buffet; five or six starters, three or four main courses. The Dinner equivalent is 10.95, but they offer approximately double the number of choices (I'm told - haven't tried it yet) Drinks are (to my mind) expensive, with a 330ml bottle of Kirin weighing in at 2.75!

Decor is modern. Although we were almost the first in, the place soon filled up. Waiter and waitress, three chefs visible in the kitchen area kept the flow going. Had the weather been as good as it was a few days ago, we would have elected to sit at one of the half-dozen tables on the pavement. Spring Rolls, Satays, Chilli Cod, Chicken Drumsticks, Ribs - all were nicely done with the spicing done just to my taste - not too strong, but still discernible. I have to admit I went back twice for starters, and, had we had the time, I would have liked to have gone back for a second shot at the main courses. The main course chicken, beef, noodles and rice were again well done.

This is another place I'll be visiting again: the meal is very good value, the ambience suitably purposeful, and a pretty good pub next door as well!

When chickens quit quarrelling over their food they often find that there is enough for all of them. I wonder if it might not be the same with the human race.
